Natto-maki is a type of thin roll (hosomaki) filled with chopped natto (fermented soybeans). It is said to have been created by a sushi restaurant in Iwate Prefecture during the mid-Showa period (1950s~) as an affordable and casual sushi option. Nowadays, it can be found in convenience stores across Japan.
