Kataomoi
“Kataomoi” means "unrequited love" in Japanese and refers to abalone (awabi) when it comes to sushi. The name originates from the proverb “iso no awabi no kataomoi" (unrequited love of the abalone on the rocky shore). Additionally, there is a theory that the name comes from the fact that abalone appears to have a shell only on one side, giving the impression of being "one-sided".
